Dietary Intakes and Serum Minerals Composition in Obese Children

Abstract

|
This study was conducted to investigate the dietary intake and serum minerals of iron, calcium, copper, magnesium and zinc in obese children. The mean age, height and weight of the subjects were 9.3 years old, 137.9cm and 50.2kg. The mean body fat ratio was 30.8%. For the nutrient intake, energy was 2172.4 kcal, which is 114% of RDA. Most of nutrient intake is higher than RDA, excepts the intake of vitamin A and B6 are 72.6% and 83% of RDA which make them lower than RDA. The intake of minerals-iron, calcium and zinc-were below RDA. The concentrations of serum iron, calcium, copper has been estimated to be 66.3§¶/dL, 9.4mg/dL and 114.9§¶/dL. The level of serum magnesium and zinc were 2.0mg/dL and 95.3§¶/dL.
